NHC 2020 to go forth everywhere

June 11-12
A course of your choosing
Location TBD by you

The 2020 National Hickory Championship is to be conducted in an unusual manner this year, as host Pete Georgiady has arranged for players to select courses on which they might play in their locales. This wrinkle is designed to overcome the social distancing requirements and the extreme quarantine rules (two weeks for outsiders who come into the area) set in place by the Miami Valley Golf Association where the Mound Golf Course is located.

Georgiady has set up the NHC Quo Na Vadis, which translates to “Where are you marching?” Players will select a course in their area, match up yardages to the Oakhurst Links, conduct their play (according to local health and safety regulations) and send cards to Georgiady for tournament results.

“Covid-19 has changed just about everything we do,” says the NHC Czar. “When the Miami Valley Golf Association reopened courses last month they added the stipulation that anyone arriving from out of state would have to be quarantined for 14 days before setting foot on the link. Combine that with the uncertainty of what may lie around the corner made it virtually impossible to plan to have our golf championship at the Mound (Golf Course).”

It is a creative way to get around the simple fact that it is hard to gather these days. While players may “compete” in their own locales, they will not be able to socialize with one another. To ameliorate that unfortunate fact, Georgiady has set up three Zoom meetings for a welcome meeting followed by two nights of event news and awards.

“The entry fee of $80 covers prizes, a few operating costs and a packet of stuff you’ll receive in the mail afterward,” Georgiady says. Unfortunately, what he cannot do is host a communal banquet or offer refreshments. Click below for information sheets that cover rules and costs of the Quo Na Vadis NHC.
