June 9-11
Ballykisteen GC
Tipperary
The Irish Hickory Open will stage its 2020 tournament in Tipperary at Ballykisteen Golf Club and the Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel. The brainchild of Ivan Morris, golf writer and golf nut from Limerick, and Tom Kennedy, golf nut from Seattle, will see a hickory golf event grace Irish shores in 2020.
Ballykisteen, the Tipperary venue which has hosted the EuroPro Tour in recent years, is seen as an ideal hickory venue. The venue includes on-site practice, accommodation, leisure, restaurant and bar facilities. Morris and Kennedy, who are partners in Experience Ireland, a travel service, are event managers of the Irish Hickory Open.
The format will be singles stroke play over 36 holes on Wednesday and Thursday, June 10-11. Tuesday, June 9 has been designated as the practice day with many golfers potentially seeing the course for the first time on that date. There will be a social element after each round with evening meals organized after the practice round and Day 1. Prizes and awards will take place in Ballykisteen’s clubhouse after the completion of the Final Round.
