2018 Vermont Hickory Open

Aug. 11-12
Country Club of Barre
Barre, Vt.

The 11th annual Vermont Hickory Open is the premiere outing of the Vermont Hickory Golf Assoc. It is a two-day medal (stoke) play event featuring mens, womens, seniors and super seniors divisions in both gross and net. All proceeds will benefit the VHGA work in developing a Vermont Golf Museum. You can read more about that effort here.

There is an optional practice round available on the Friday, Aug. 10.

“This year’s event will be at the marvelous Country Club of Barre, which started its life in 1924 as a nine-hole course, and one of the first efforts of Wayne Stiles of the firm Stiles & Van Kleek,” says Allen Johnson of the VHGA.  Read more about Wayne Styles here.  Those of you who remember Bob Labbance (author and former editor of the Golf Collectors Society Bulletin) will remember that he wrote a book on Wayne Stiles.

Schedule of Play
Saturday morning tee times are likely to start between 10-11 a.m., going off in Open, Senior, and Super Senior Flights, in threesomes to aid speed of play. Tables will be set out for a club swap where folks can trade and buy clubs. That should kick off between 4-5 p.m. as people come in from golf. Vermont-themed “heavy hors d’oeuvres” will be served.

Sunday will feature a modified shotgun start going off around 9:30 a.m., with the leaders going off the 1st hole, and the rest of the field going off the back; 18th, 17th, 16th, etc.; this facilitates everyone getting back into the clubhouse at roughly the same time for our buffet and awards ceremony, which will occur around 2:30 p.m.

Format:  This is a two-day individual championship, 36-hole medal play competition. Open division plays at medal play, Senior, Super Senior and Women play modified Stableford.
