2017 Vermont Hickory Open

Aug. 12-13
Country Club of Barre
Barre, Vt.

We are excited to send details of the 10th annual Vermont Hickory Open, to be held at a new venue, the historic and scenic Country Club of Barre. Come join us for a fun weekend of hickory golf. The following link will get you all the information and entry form http://www.vthga.org/events/vermont-hickory-open/  Also, see the whole calendar of Vermont Hickory Golf outings here.

Our premiere event of the year is a two day medal (stoke) play event featuring mens, womens, seniors and super seniors divisions both gross and net.  All proceeds will go towards our work in developing a Vermont Golf Museum. You can read more about that effort here.

Dates:   Saturday, Aug. 12 and Sunday, Aug. 13 with an optional practice round available on the Friday, Aug. 11.

Venue:  The marvelous Country Club of Barre started its life in 1924 as a nine-hole course, one of the first efforts of Wayne Stiles, of Stiles & Van Kleek.  Read more about Wayne Styles here.  Those of you who remember Bob Labbance will remember that he wrote a book on Wayne Stiles.

What Does the Tournament Benefit?
We’re using funds we’ve collected to date to create a Vermont Golf Museum. It has started out as a website (see where we are with it here), and we hope someday it might become a physical museum as well. There are a wealth of golf stories we’re trying to tell, including:

The Players & Personages:
Walter Travis, Joe Kirkwood, Bob Rotella, Keegan Bradley

The Courses:
Ekwanok, Equinox, Dorset Field Club, St. Johnsbury, Burlington Country Club, etc.

The Architects:
John Duncan Dunn (Ekwanok), Donald Ross (BCC), Willie Park Jr. (Shelburne Inn / Webb family 9 hole course), Mungo Park (St. Johnsbury), Wayne Stiles (CCof Barre) and many others.
