2019 North Texas Hickory Open

Oct. 10-12
Sherrill Park Golf Club
Richardson, Texas

From Scott Pilgrim:
Hello Hickory Friends!

The event is scheduled to return to Sherrill Park Golf Club on the No. 2 course. Practice rounds are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 as well as a meet/greet with snacks and refreshments, early check-in/registration, Trade Show, and putting tournament.

Round 1 with will be played Friday morning Oct. 11 with a Tex-Mex buffett dinner at Matt’s Resturant that evening. Round 2 will be Saturday morning Oct. 12, with a BBQ Awards banquet immediately following – Beautiful trophies, artwork, raffle prizes, etc.!  Additional details, including Tournament Hotel accomodations, are on the attached entry form.

*We VERY truly apologize to those who have conflicts on these dates…you will most certainly be missed.  It’s very difficult to schedule a Dallas/Ft. Worth golf tournament in October. We plan to solidify this event for the THIRD weekend in October for future planning. (Oct. 15-17 of 2020)

Our average north Texas high temperature in October is 79 degrees with fall breezes, so we certainly expect beautiful weather, and it is a time when the golf courses are in their absolute BEST condition of the year. We hope you will consider coming to enjoy some Texas hospitality, and invite a friend to experience the joy of the hickory game.

Bill Reed will provide hickory sets for anyone in need, and the tournament will pay the rental fee. As in the past, we have a FUN Scramble division for skeptical “first timers”, so NO pressure.  Please spread the word that clubs at NO COST are waiting for anyone who needs them.  There are many golfers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and we hope you will invite/encourage friends and colleagues to come and enjoy something truly special.

Although the NTHO entry website is not yet updated and ready for credit card entries, click here for the Entry Form for mail-in entries.

When entries are sent in as soon as possible, it is VERY helpful for the planning and preparation of the event.  If you already know that you plan to play, a brief response to this email would be very welcomed and appreciated!

Early responses/players include:
Peter Herrington         Johnny Beach
Phil Farr                       Russell Beach
Bill Reed                      Jonathan Pilgrim
Pete League                Doug Armstrong (Sponsor)
Doug Schackelford     Rives McBee
Gary Krupkin               Nick Flaim
John Wilbanks (Sponsor)

The NTHO will once again support the Garland Sports Hall of Fame and its scholarship fund. If you are interested in sponsoring this event (a $250 sponsorship includes your entry fee), your sponsorship is tax deductible.  Click here for a sponsorship form. It may be included with the entry form.

We sure look forward to another great event (and dry this year!), and hope you and your golf friends will join the fun!

Updates will be coming regularly.

Walter Hagen will be honored in this year’s event, so I hope you will enjoy these three videos about his career and highlights.
This video is about his 1927 PGA Championship at Cedar Crest, right here in Dallas.

And here is a third video about Hagen that you might enjoy.
