Gailes and Blackshire golf courses
Lakewood Shores Resort
Oscoda, Mich.
This new two-day event on the Michigan Hickory Tour calendar is played over two courses, the Gailes and Blackshire at Lakewood Shores Resort. This is a lovely area of Michigan along Lake Huron and the golf courses choses have been widely hailed as two of Michigan’s best.

The Gailes at Lakewood Shores Resort.
Designed by Kevin Aldridge, The Gailes recreates the look and feel of the famed seaside courses of Scotland. Golfers will experience large double greens, meandering berms, sod faced pot bunkers and long fescue grasses. Even host Xander Dobreff says the course is less than half a mile from Cedar Lake and plays fast with several hidden pot bunkers. “The father-son team who designed the course did so after a trip to Scotland. This course is one of my favorite golf experiences.”

Sandy waste areas on The Blackshire at Lakewood Shores Resort.
The Blackshire, also designed by Aldridge, recreates the look and feel of the famous Pine Valley C.C. Although not a replica of Pine Valley, it offers a similar rugged feel with hardwoods, large sand waste areas, and undulating greens. There’s also a hint of Pinehurst No.2. Encompassing less than 200 acres, Blackshire has a classic turn-of–the-century feel, and with short walks from green to tees, also provides a classic walking experience. Dobreff describes it as a “magical spot” where the sounds of golf echo through the woods. He says the putting here is truly a test.
