Wiegandt, Shackelford up to the task at Wisconsin’s Kohler Challenge

The Kohler Hickory Challenge was played at the Kohler properties this past week, May 11-13. Players started their week with a practice round on the Straits course (home of the 2020 Ryder Cup) and then continued their Kohler adventure with a round on the Meadows course Friday and the Irish course on Saturday. Friday, after the Meadows round, players went out on the par 3 Baths course for some fun and adventure. There was enough golf for all.

We would like to congratulate the following golfers for leading the pack in scoring on these hickory friendly, but very challenging, courses.

In the Legends (Super Senior) Division:

Doug Shackelford was our champion (82-85) besting George Burgland (83-89). Doug made the trip from Texas and experienced a week of golf on what might be five of the top 10  best courses in Wisconsin. In the Net division our winner was David Boyd followed by Angus Rollo who made the trip from Finland to join us.

In the Senior Division our Champion was Mike Brown (88-88), who shot consistently on both courses and who won in a scorecard playoff over Bert Coghill (86-90). Mike was also our host at the Par 3 Baths this year – thank you, Mike! Our Net winners were Larry Cracraft in first and Wisconsin’s own Doc Eike.

Our Ladies Champion this year was Baily Wiegandt from Lousiville, Ky.  Playing her first rounds at Kohler, Baily shot very nice scores of 91-87.  Our Net Ladies Division winner was Jeanne Swenson from Iowa.

In the Open Division, Ernie Ernst was our Champion ( 85-82), edging out Jared Beggs who finished second. Jared shot a net under par 69 the first day. Our Net Champion was Jacob Bengston.

We would like to thank all the players for attending and appreciated the weather we were provided this week. It really was a wonderful week and hope many of the players will return again. Special Thanks to Will Jacoby for providing some truly unique gifts.  Thank you Will.
