USHO visits Monterey in 2017

11 at del monte

The 11th hole at the Del Monte Golf Course.

The No. 1 hickory golf tournament in the United States will be held
at the Del Monte Golf Course, July 10-12, 2017.

When golf made its way to California in the early 1890s the Hotel Del Monte built a 9-hole track that today is the site of the historic Del Monte Golf Course. It is one of two of the state’s earliest golf courses still in operation, the other being the Presidio in San Francisco, built in 1896. Del Monte is the oldest golf course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River. It has hosted many championship events including the Monterey Open, the Monterey City Amateur and the TaylorMade Pebble Beach Invitational, the latter of which began at Del Monte in 1972.

Designed by Charles Maud, the course features wide fairways lined with oak, pine and cypress trees. The course, the setting, everything is rich with the history of both California and golf. The 2017 USHO committee is beginning the hard work of sweating the details. As soon as these are ready, you’ll be able to see everything here and on the official USHO website.

Mark your calendars!
