USHO registration to be posted Jan. 4

Organizers for the 14th U.S. Hickory Open have announced that the registration for the event will be by mail only – no online registration will be available. The form will be placed on this website, on the U.S. Hickory Open page, on Jan. 4, 2021.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 12-14 at the Gearhart Golf Links in Gearhart, Ore.

“We hope that this will make it fair and give everybody an equal opportunity of entering,” said Rob Ahlschwede, chair of the 2021 USHO Committee.

Registration forms will be collated by postmark. Ahlschwede said withdrawals will be penalized a percentage of the entry fee based on the date of withdrawal. No set dates have been established, but will be posted as soon as determined. The hope is to discourage early entries designed merely to “hold a place” in favor of those who are serious about entering and playing in the USHO. A wait list will be established according to the date of the entries received beyond the 112 expected places for USHO players.

Also newly posted is a tentative USHO schedule for 2021 and a list of area courses that visiting players may wish to visit either before or after the USHO.

Ahlschwede said that 2021 participants will have the opportunity to play at Chambers Bay, site of the 2015 U.S. Open. Six tee times have been arranged for USHO players beginning at 2 p.m. on Sept. 15, the day following the completion of the USHO at Gearhart.
