U.S. Team takes the day at Swift Cup matches in Austin

It’s one of the season’s finest events – the Swift Cup Matches and Onion Creek Tournament at the Onion Creek Club of Austin, Texas. This year’s outing was March 20.

Hosted by Region 4 of the Golf Collectors Society and its director, Pete League, the hickory golf outing regularly draws a crew from Canada as well as players from around the U.S. In the photo above are, from left, David Jardine, Captain of the Canadian team, Pete League, and Russ Fisher, Captain of the U.S. team. The  USA team won 14.5 to 12.5 in the Swift Cup matches, which are patterned after the Ryder Cup format. Chris Palar of Des Moines, Iowa was the MVP of the U.S. hickory team. A total of 36 players made up nine teams of two players each to represent the two international squads.

The format was foursomes (alternate shot) followed by fourball (better ball score).
