Tour players using hickories at TPC of Louisiana

Here’s something from New Orleans where the Zurich Classic at the TPC Louisania. This excerpt is from a larger piece on the event by Doug Tatum of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Could it be some of the younger tour players get a taste for hickory?

TURNING BACK THE CLOCK: Seven players will be taking part in a three-hole exhibition today wearing custom baggy knickers, argyle socks, ties and sweaters while swinging hickory shafted clubs.
The competition is part of Zurich Insurance Group’s year-long celebration of 100 years insuring America. Donald, Rose, McDowell, Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane and Camilo Villegas will be the participants.
“When it comes to insurance and golf, 1912 was an important year. It’s the birthdate of golf legends Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan and Zurich’s founding in the United States,” Mike Foley, CEO North America Commercial for Zurich Insurance, said in a release. “The 100-Year Challenge presents us with a fun and exciting way to celebrate this milestone year.”
The players will receive $1,000 for their charity of choice, with the winner earning an additional $1,000 for his charity. Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss and Polo are some of the designers participating.
