Spanish golfers enjoy hickory outing

Sept. 4, 2019

Gonzalo Retana Ardanaz is a new SoHG member from San Sebastian, Spain. The new-to-hickory player wanted to share his excitement in the new sport with friends and organized a tournament held on Aug. 8 at the Real Nuevo Club de Golf Club in San Sebastian. Both men and women participated, Retana says. “It was very successful day, filled with lots of laughs and great weather.”

The overall winner was Cecilia Bronte who was presented a trophy.

“It was the first time a hickory event took place in San Sebastian,” says Retana Ardanaz. “The event brought a lot of interest among regular golf players and how the game of the golf was played with clubs from 1900-1930.”

He is already planning another edition of the event for 2020.
