Results of the inaugural Glenmoor Hickory Open

July 11, 2018
Canton, Ohio

Bob Glass reports:

The first Glenmoor Hickory Open is now in the books. Twenty hickory enthusiasts teed it up on a sun drenched Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio, on July 8. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, though modern, lent itself to a fair test for the hickory golf clubs.

There were three categories in the competition: Open, Senior and Super Senior. Also, to give “those new to hickory” golfers an opportunity to enjoy the feel of hickory shafts, Glenmoor offered a scramble division.

The Super Senior winner was Barry Herbert from Kansas City, Kan. Of note, Barry helped to spread the good news of hickory shafted golf by providing many sets and individual clubs for sale. His display area was quite busy the morning of the tournament. The Senior winner was Walter Bills from Royal Oak, Mich. The Open winner was Zachary Glass from Canton, Ohio. Low net winner was George Kelly from Boardman, Ohio, in the Senior division.

A huge thank you goes out the Chris McIntyre for providing rental sets for the scramble.

Glenmoor CC PGA pro and tournament director, Meghann Stem, expressed her appreciation to all the contestants, especially to Barry and Walter, who traveled the farthest, and to Tri-State Hickory Golf (OH-PA-WV) for their support and participation.
