Hello Hickory Friends!
Thank you to all of the players who “kept the faith” to play in the North Texas Hickory Open this year. The Thursday evening Trade Show and putting tournament proved to be a BLAST!…with Matt Stovall edging Joe Hollerbach by a stroke, to win the matted/framed print of Gene Sarazen – signed by Gene himself. Although we had to call Friday’s round after eight holes, round two on Saturday proved to be a wonderful day. We certainly ended on a high note, with some fun golf, fabulous BBQ, raffle items, Bill Reed (speaker), trophies, awards…and of course the best laughs/stories/fellowship around.
When scores were all in, the Scramble winners were Rives McBee, Gary Krupkin, Doug Shackelford, and Genero Lopez. Ryle Stovall, our 11-year-old player from Arizona is our 2018 Ladies Champion with a fine round of 90. Phil Farr won the Statesman Division with 87, one stroke better than Pete League’s 88. The tough Senior division saw Ed Horvat (also from Arizona) shoot a very fine 74 to take a two-stroke victory over last year’s Senior winner, Ken Jackson. Photos of the champions are below.
In the Open division, our 2018 Tournament Champion, Nick Flaim, a recent Texas “transplant” from Michigan, fired an outstanding 75, to edge Arizona’s Matt Stovall (Rylee’s dad) by a single stroke. Nick was proudly awarded the Champion’s Trophy, along with a beautiful signed printer’s proof print of Bobby Jones – matted and framed. Go to www.Garlandshf.com to see tournament pictures.
