Greenfield, Mass.

Thirty-seven Hickory Golfers from nine states and four countries gathered at the Country Club of Greenfield on May 18 for the third annual Massachusetts Hickory Open Championship under perfect spring playing conditions.

The historic Country Club of Greenfield dates to 1896. The current golf course was built in 1901 by Alexander Findlay and completed by Ralph Martin Barton (who trained under Seth Raynor and C.B. Macdonald), in 1913. We played the course to its original hickory layout and it was in pristine condition thanks to course greenskeeper, Chris Reid and staff.

Jeff Blomstedt and Bill Wardwell from the host club, share the Findlay Trophy, tied for low gross with 75s.

Bill Conant, also from the host club , and Jack Crosby, from Concord, Mass., shared the net honors with 69s.

Eight additional handsome wood carved wall plaque trophies were passed out to Stabelford gross and net winners.  Click here to see complete tournament results.

A special thanks to PGA Head Golf Professional Kevin Piecuch and his PGA Associate Professional Patrick Maddock for organizing, scoring, and making sure the event went smoothly.

A special thanks to Chef Abaz, from the highly regarded Terazza Restaurant, for the  delicious dinner served during the awards ceremony.

Last, but not least, thanks to all who participated in the event. The attendance was up 20 percent from the year before and hickory golf is alive and well in New England.
