Whistling Straits tests hickory golfers

May 12-13 – Haven, Wisc.

It was two beautiful days of golf at Whistling Straits Golf Course. For those of you who have played this event in the past, I know what you are thinking. Ice, snow and the like. Far from it. On Saturday, on the Irish course, comments of it being just a tad too warm were common.

Thirty-two golfers took on the two-day Kohler Challenge that Whistling Straits and the Irish course provide any golfer, let alone a player using hickory clubs. There were some spectacular shots and two very impressive scores. Mr. Peter Flory’s 74 on Friday on the Straits course was the second best hickory score ever recorded on that track in the four years of the event. On Saturday an equally impressive 76 was recorded by our Wisconsin Open Champion Mr. Steve Simer, who with that fine score cut Mr. Flory by one stroke for the two-day total.

Congratulations to all the players who participated in the 2017 Kohler Hickory Challenge. Weather was outstanding and the play was challenging, but another great time was had at the Straits.  It’s a golf destination you have to see.
