Missouri players reign at 12th Interstate Tournament

Nov. 3, 2019

Event host Peter Herrington reports:

“Three days with sun and no rain!”

15 teams competed for the Mens Division, playing 2-man better ball on Friday, and modified alternate shot on Saturday, with stroke play scoring. The winning team – Dave Gamet and Gene Keiter, from Missouri – posted an unbeatable 59/67. Barb Morris and Cindy Skola (Missouri) beat two other Ladies teams, playing an 18-hole scramble both days, with 65/55. Fred and Sherry Smeltzer (Missouri) won the Couples Thursday 9-hole scramble with a 38. This is the first time Missouri teams have swept the board!

As usual, our hosts, Fred and Sherry, put on a sumptuous reception at their home on Thursday evening, with delicious food and over 100 single malts to sample. John Overton provided a wonderful pork loin in addition. The Smeltzers also provided prizes for the event – replica 1900-era putters from Fred’s workshop and embroidered hats and towels from Sherry’s sewing room. Kinderhook also provided flags inscribed by Gene Keiter and signed by all participants for the winning teams.

For the 2019 tournament we welcomed first time players Angela Wilson, Gene Keiter, Chris Hardy, AaronTouchstone, Kirk Watson, and Kevin Johnson. And four non-playing ladies who attended the reception and both dinners.

We are looking forward to 2020.

Best regards,   Peter
