Mike Just is 2013 Mike Brown Award honoree

Mike Just, owner of the Louisville Golf Company, has been selected as the 2013 Mike Brown Award honoree.

The award is named for the late Mike Brown, shown at right, who epitomized those values that hickory golfers hold dear:

  • Respect for the traditions of hickory golf;
  • Dedication to growing the game of hickory golf; and
  • Passion for promoting lasting friendships through hickory golf.

The physical award is Mike Brown’s favorite Tom Stewart mongrel mashie, which is housed in a case on permanent display at the Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. Mike Just’s name will join earlier recipients on a plaque and he will receive a specially engraved SoHG gold medal recognizing the award.

Previous award recipients:
2010 – Tad Moore and Frank Boumphrey
2011 – Roger Hill and Ralph Livingston III
2012 – Bill Engelson

Mike Just’s company, Louisville Golf, crafts beautiful replica hickory golf clubs as well as modern persimmon headed clubs. He is an avid golfer and a consummate craftsman.

“I got involved with hickory golf nearly 15 years ago at the 2nd National Hickory Championship and have been ‘hooked’ since,” he says. “I have a passion for building and repairing hickory golf clubs and promoting hickory golf. Playing hickory golf is so much fun and you meet such good people that you want everyone you meet to have that same wonderful experience. It is an honor to have been selected for the Mike Brown Award.”
