2011 Mike Brown Award Nominations Are Open

Mike was a cherished character whose life, personality and many larger-than-life qualities remain indelibly etched in the minds and memories of those who were fortunate to know him. The award celebrates his respect for the traditions of hickory golf; his dedication to growing the sport; and his passion for promoting lasting friendships through hickory golf.

The award itself is Mike’s beloved Tom Stewart mongrel mashie, which is on permanent display at the Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. Names of award winners are engraved on a plaque on the case and each honoree receives a special SoHG gold medal. The 2011 honoree will be announced following play at the Mid Pines Hickory Open.

A nomination form is available on the SoHG website. Nominations will be accepted until Sept. 15, 2011. Please take the time to submit the name of an SoHG member whom you feel should be so honored; who epitomizes Mike’s passion for the game and would be a worthy addition to the mongrel mashie honor roll. If you knew Mike, then you know he would immediately enlist everyone to go on the plaque at once, such was his generous nature. In his absence however, we will do our best to select one honoree at a time. Help us then, with your nomination.

The 2010 winners of the award went to two individuals – Frank Boumphrey and Tad Moore.
