Mid Pines Hickory Open results for 2022

It was a great weekend of weather and a fantastic 2022 tournament at the Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. With temperatures in the high 70s, the scores were a tad lower this year and the course condition was superb; kudos to the course superintendent.

The overall winner in the Open Division with a gross score of 148 was Will Peterson from Tampa, Fla., followed by Brock Elder at a close 149. Open Division net honors were awarded to Tug Passen of Mt. Dora, Fla. In the Senior Division, Eric Becker from Pinehurst, N.C., handily won the gross award with a convincing 153, followed by Bill Geisler and Ken Chester at 161. Net honors were awarded to Rich Grula of Winter Park, Fla. The Super Senior gross award went to Otey Crisman III from Selma, Ala., with a score of 159; second place was Deal Hudson at 164. Bill Martin won the net award. The Grand Master award went to Tad Moore, also from Selma, Ala. The Ladies Division gross winner was Barbara Kopec of Niceville, Fla., with 185. Lou Anne Brossman from Aiken, S.C., won the net award.

Mid Pines brought the hospitality aspect of the event back to pre-pandemic levels. The Friday club swap and cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres was very well attended, and the closing awards luncheon left no one hungry on their way home. The beautiful weather meant the deck overlooking the putting green was full in the evenings, with much story-telling and conviviality.

Thanks go to property owner Kelly Miller, Director of Golf & GM Graham Gilmore, Head Professional Brett Harless, and the entire staff for a warm welcome and renewed commitment to this great hickory event and its traditions. Based on everything that happened this weekend, the beautiful course and splendid hospitality, there is likely to be a full field in 2023.
