Metropolitan Hickory Society’s Nickel & Dime event worth every penny

May 28, 2021
Bill Martin reports on the results of the 10th annual Nickel and Dime event of the Metropolitan Hickory Society.

Once again Ridgewood CC outdid themselves with the quality of their presentation. From the pristine course conditions to the beautiful recently renovated clubhouse. From the welcoming pro staff to the friendly locker room attendants. And what can one say about the food, excellent!

We thank RCC members Mike P, Mike H, and Espo for sharing this wonderful experience of golf at its highest level. Not to mention the fantastic Tilly layout with more hidden puzzles than a Rubik’s cube. Hickory golf at its absolute finest.

Prior to the presentation of awards Mike Policano distributed various top level golf books to each participant in honor of our 10th annual Nickel and Dime event. Brian Schuman, Mike Policano, and Tim Alpaugh were the originators of the Metropolitan Hickory Society and deserve many thanks from those of us who have been fortunate enough to share many memories of hickory golf played on some of the most iconic venues in our Metropolitan area.

Additional offerings will be made available this season. Hackensack GC, and Hollywood GC are on the rotation for September and October. We are also working on providing one or two other dates this summer. Many thanks to everyone who attend our events and provide insight, background, knowledge, and fun!

The Open Division was taken by Jon Byron of New York City with a sub-80 round. Hollywood GC’s Rob Wolf also played well as a close runner up.

The Reserve Division winner was Bill Martin of Spring Lake GC, followed by Kevin Mendik from Brae Burn CC in Massachusetts.

New faces included RCC member Mike Hutchins, Inwood CC member Adam Russell, and long hitting David Beck from Madison, N.J. We trust that they will all make many return trips to the MHS.

Cheers in Hickory!
