Iain Forrester tames Morfontaine forests for French Hickory win

Held on the very private Morfontaine Golf Club (Tom Simpson, 1913), north of Paris. During the opening ceremonies for the club, James Braid teed it up with Arnaud Massey and Jean Gassiat. The course was originally built on an old polo pitch by the Duke Of Guiche. It was to be a private 9-hole course for friends and family. Simpson added a new 18 in 1927, but the original 9 holes are still in existence. Reports of the beautiful course, the light among the trees and the old world setting are striking.

The French Hickory Open included the original nine holes and the first nine of the 1927 18-hole course.
