Hickory golf returns to Western Australia

It’s been ever so long. The 1930s, some say, but hickory golf has returned to Western Australia thanks to the incredible ingenuity and pluck of four Perth golfers who braved extraordinarily lovely conditions to take on the Seaview Golf Club course for a morning round.

Dan Cullen, Tim Holmes, Mike Gordon, and Clayton Gunning were the intrepid foursome bringing the sound of hickory golf to a corner of the globe long absent from mashies, jiggers and brassies. It was only 9 holes, played on May 27, but the gents make it count and loved every minute.

They are planning more, they say, and look forward to establishing Seaview as their home base for monthly hickory golf. As local golfers will surely clamor to join them, spare loaner sets will be needed. Fortunately, Dan says he has a few, some no excuses. Get out and enjoy!

Our hickory foursome wished to express thanks to Seaview’s Andrew Marchbank for setting things up for them. By the way, the day’s scratch champ was Tim Holmes and Dan Cullen made off with the net honors.

Happy playing gents. We look forward to more hickory golf news from Australia.
