Hickory golf blooming among Kansas City sunflowers

The Kansas City Area Hickory Golfers completed its third annual Sunflower Hickory Match-Play Outing on April 22, 2023, at the Falcon Lakes Golf Course in Basehor, Kan.  The field consisted of 31 enthusiastic golfers, all determined to battle their matches in cool temperatures; it was 42 degrees at tee-time and never above 45 degrees throughout the day. Match winners earned a gold medal for their winning ways, while opponents were honored with the silver medal for their effort. And all topped off with that famous Kansas City style BBQ at the end of play ensured  success and a good time had by all.  This year’s outing drew participants from seven states and was comprised of a diverse group; young, older and several newbies to the hickory game.

Our third annual event here in Kansas was a huge success, as we had a great turnout despite the cold day,”  said event director Mike Needleman.  “I think we are well with the re-birth of the hickory golf here in Kansas, and of course looking ahead with promise for next year’s event.”

The 2024 Kansas Sunflower Hickory Match-Play event is scheduled for April 20, 2024.  Save the date!
