Here’s a nifty site for fans of Scottish golf. This North Berwick-related site (the home page is (http://www.northberwick.org.uk/index.html) lists dozens of club makers, professionals and course designers with biographies on most of them and a handful of old photos to boot. You’ll find the Sayers, Jack White, Arnaud Massy, the Ferguson’s, Fred McLeod, Alex Aitken, Willie Anderson and many more. The site has a learned piece on the origins of golf at North Berwick, a photo gallery of several courses and pages devoted to some of the best links courses in the U.K. As this is a promotional site for the area, you’ll also find a list of restaurants, accommodations and, of course, pubs. (Whichever pub you choose, local advice is to start with a pint of the “Belhaven Best”.) Great site, lots of fun and plenty of good info for the golfer looking to acquaint him or herself with this friendly and wonderful area of Scotland.

www.hickorygolf.com

This is the granddaddy of hickory golf sites. It was begun many years ago by modern hickory golf pioneer Ralph Livingston III, whose research into the hickory game as it was played then has brought new understanding to the clubs we hold in our hands today. Although the “Events” and “News” tabs are a bit weaker than in the past (Ralph is battling a health issue that prevents him from giving these elements the attention he would like), the “Home” and “Clubs” tabs are among the best, if not the best, out there for the knowledge they offer and the depth of research Ralph has put into each word and entry. Lots of information on pre- and post-1900 clubs, restoration tips, links to resources and other material are available here. If you are new to hickory golf, or just want to re-acquaint yourself with one of the best, visit and bookmark this site today.
