Europe’s hickory golfers celebrate in Kitzbühel

Oct. 15, 2019
Hickory Golf Open Kitzbühel, Austria

Tatjana Thoß of Germany
and Giunto G. Schalkenberg of Austria report:

“I’m golfing in the rain” … with as much enthusiasm and joy as Gene Kelly sang and danced in the rain, 30 golfers from Germany, Austria, Suisse, France, and Poland were celebrating the first Hickory Golf Open Kitzbühel, throughout the weekend of Oct. 4-6 in Kitzbühel, Austria.

The organization by Giunnto G. Schalkenberg representing the “Hickory Golf Burgenland and Kitzbühel” and the well-prepared golf courses of Kitzbuhel-Schwarzsee and the Golf & County Club Rasmushof made it a weekend to remember.

On Sunday the players were challenged on the par 3, 9-hole course in the finish area of the most famous ski downhill race, “Der Streif.”

In the evenings the Kitzbuheler Country Club definitely delivered stylish ambience and a wonderful award ceremony and party. The restaurant, Rasmushof, deserves compliments for the service quality and the best ever Kaiserschmarrn! (A sweet dessert named for the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph I.)

Not only the fun but certainly also prizes were attracting the players thanks to sponsors Johnny Walker and Reiters Reserve. Handmade Kitz trophies, wine from our own production and several valuable proper awards were handed to the winners.

Brutto (gross) winners were: Men: 1. Rüdiger Hillert , 2. Giunto G.Schalkenberg,  3. Goran Tomasec and women 1. Tatjana Thoß, 2. Gabriele David, 3. Christa Allitsch

Netto (net) winners were:  Men: 1.Gregor Lauber  2. Goran Tomasec,  3. Ueli Lamm and women 1.Christa Allitsch, 2. Gabriele David, 3. Erika Frey

All participants already marked next year’s date in their schedule and besides weather there is not much which could get any better.

Kind regards from Tatjana Thoß, Germany
and Giunto G. Schalkenberg from Hickory Golf Burgenland, Austria
