Sixty-five hickory players from around the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. competed in this year’s contest, including nine women. The tournament supported a field for Championship, Senior, New-To-Hickory, Super Senior, and a Ladies Division.
Unfamiliar to Arizona, a Scottish weather-front showed up on the first day of the tournament. The normal sunny weather turned into a heavy rain that forced cancellation of the first round. Drinking and merriment did not diminish our outlook and, sure enough, the Arizona sun and warm weather returned for Sunday’s round.
Deal Hudson of Fairfax, Va. was our overall Tournament Champion, shooting a 76, with Bill “Ernie” Ernst close on his heals at 77. Our Senior winner was Tom Quinn; the New-To-Hickory Division winner was Paul Critchfield; our Super Senior Division was won by Matt Nelson; and our Ladies Division was won by Edie Barringer.
Our tournament next year will be Saturday Feb. 28, and Sunday March 1. Please put it on your calendar and come join the fun!
