The 2nd annual Philadelphia Hickory Open was held May 22 at McCall Golf and CC in Upper Darby, Pa. McCall is a sporty William Flynn course measuring just 4,500 yards and boasts a rather deceiving par of 66. The field this year was comprised of 23 players from around Philadelphia, New Jersey, Maryland and beyond. Cliff Martin from Los Angeles, Calif. made it look easy on a very hickory friendly overcast day as he took the 1st place check with 67. Defending champion Jeremy Moe from Fort Smith, Ark. took 2nd with 71. Jeff Smith, also from Arkansas, took 3rd with 73. Jeff’s round was punctuated with a hole-in-one on the 100 yard par 3 6th hole! Many players mentioned how much they enjoyed the course and their spin around it so a return trip to McCall in 2017 looks likely.
