Arizona team maintains grip on Pacific Cup

Jan. 18, 2022

Eddie Breeden’s summation for the 2022 Pacific Cup was short and to the point… “Arizona kicked a** and California is still zero for this event. It wasn’t close. But… as always, it was very fun! Great weather, company, and course.”

The Pacific Hickory Cup is played at the Gene Sarazen-designed Shadow Mountain Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The two teams play three rounds in a Ryder Cup format – morning four ball and afternoon foursomes, then singles match play on the final day.

The Pacific Cup trophy.

“We have possibly the best trophy in all of hickory golf,” Breeden happily asserts and who are we to gainsay his assessment after viewing the celebratory potential of this most compelling award.

Shadow Mountain a semi-private golf course built to test but not overtax golfers. At par 70 it is one of the few in the Palm Desert area that can be walked, rewarding golfers who shape their shots and use their head more than their driver. With over 700 mature palm trees, the fairways are well defined and the challenging greens are protected by well-placed sand bunkers. Tucked in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains of south Palm Desert, Shadow Mountain Golf Club is protected from the winds that plague many desert golf courses.

Congratulations to the Arizona team. We are quite sure the trophy’s reservoir was drained in short order though, surely, refills were at the ready.
