9th Iowa Hickory Classic a gem

Congratulations to the medal winners and all of the players and participants of the 2015 Edition of the Iowa Hickory Classic Golf Tournament. The Friday evening reception featuring a dinner of Scottish delights was presented by Hyperion’s Chef Joe York. (My God, I love Scotch Eggs and the lobster bisque was to die for.)

The 9th edition of this Midwest hickory tournament changed venues this year due to a regrassing program at Hyperion Field Club.

The architect of the 1910 Hyperion course was Scotsman Tom Bendelow. He was also was the architect of the 1901 Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa, which is the oldest municipal golf course west of the Mississippi River. (Just to name drop, Bendelow also designed Olympia Fields and Medinah’s 1, 2, & 3 ).

Turn-of-the-century engineer Warren Dickinson was the actual course builder of both Waveland and later Hyperion, so it felt comfortable and nearly like home to these following players:
