2022 Tri-State Hickory Open & Legacy Day

July 17
Clearview Golf Course
East Canton, OH

The 2022 Tri-State Hickory Open and Legacy day is sponsored by the Tri-State Hickory Golf group, the Golf Heritage Society, and the Clearview Legacy Foundation.

The tournament format will be an open hickory tournament plus a “Legacy” division in which players can use classic-era clubs – persimmons and blades, for example – or modern clubs over the historic Clearview Golf Course designed and built by William Powell. When William “Bill” Powell encountered racial discrimination on the golf course after returning home from World War II, he decided to build his own place to play, one where people of all colors would be welcome. In 1946, he established Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio: “America’s Course.”

Renee Powell

The host of the tournament is Powell’s daughter, Renee Powell, a former LPGA golfer and hall of famer.  Following her time on the LPGA tour, Powell dedicated her life to diversifying the game of golf. She became an international goodwill ambassador traveling to Africa on more than 25 trips to host golf clinics. She has also committed her life to expanding golf to more youth, women, seniors, minorities, and military veterans. In 2011, she launched Clearview H.O.P.E (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) a cost-free, year-round therapeutic and recreational golf program specifically for women veterans. As a sought-after public speaker, Renee has informed, inspired, and enlightened countless audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.

Please join us for a very special day of golf from hickories to moderns in the company of one of the game’s most distinguished ambassadors.
