The Honorable Company of Illinois Golfers has for the past several years hosted an annual spring gathering for gutty enthusiasts, along with 12 holes of feathery golf. Hosts Denny and Cathy Lane have renamed it The Oddball “…to honor the spirit of the golfers who keep the old game alive, as well as the ‘odd balls’ used in the hickory game,” Denny Lane said.
Here’s the schedule and related fees.
Friday, April 15
Hillcrest Golf Center, Washington, Ill.
10:15 a.m. – The day will start with traditional toasts and photos, then we’ll start with nine holes of gutty play (Braid or Park ball), followed by a quick lunch in the clubhouse (our treat), and at 1 p.m. we will tee off for 12 holes of feathery golf. Balls provided at no cost by Hickory Lane. Loaner clubs will be available. Please dress for the event if possible.
21-hole cost is $20; cart is extra (per 9 holes). Payable to the clubhouse.
Saturday, April 16
Metamora Fields, Metamora, Ill.
9:30 a.m. – We will gather for photos and more enthusiastic toasting with Francis the Squirrel.
10 a.m. is the start for 18 holes of gutty (Park or Braid). Snacks will be provided throughout the day. If restaurant is open, we will gather for a late lunch, drinks, and mutual admiration afterward. Please dress for the event if you are able. Possible bogey game for those bold enough to challenge the Squirrel ($5).
$50 with cart, payable at the clubhouse.
Cost to event hosts (Denny, Tom or Jeff) is $20 for either or both days. Please bring friends old and new! We are truly looking forward to seeing you again.
