Pete Georgiady, host, founder, and organizer of the now 25-year-old National Hickory Championship has announced that the 2022 edition will be at the Foxburg Country Club in Foxburg, Pa. It is scheduled for June 2-4.

“Better late than never,” Georgiady said of the announcement. He had been working with the club, and other venues, to nail down 2022. The decision to go to the c. 1897 Foxburg was always on the table, he said, as the course’s age fits the time period that NHC golf wishes to emulate – late 1890s gutty golf.  “Many NHC players have already played that historic course or have participated in the Foxburg Hickory Championship,” Georgiady said. “The 2022 Championship marks the 25th year of the NHC’s existence. Provisions are being made for a number of remote players as well.”

Tom Johnson, of Tallmadge, Ohio, has hosted the Foxburg Hickory Championship, a similar gutty-style event, at Foxburg CC since 2008. Asked at the Columbus Golf Collectibles Show in early January what he thought about the possibility of the NHC at Foxburg this year, he said it would be a great idea. “It fits the style of the NHC and will be a great venue for Pete’s players. They’ll have a great game on the perfect course for the NHC.”

Georgiady said the general format will be the same as with previous NHCs with competitive rounds played on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4. The agenda on Thursday, June 2 will include a 9-hole International Feathery Challenge, Mike and Elmore Just Foursomes, open practice, and a welcome reception in the early evening.

He is ironing out the details and said full information will be emailed no later than the first week in February. We’ll place that information on this website as well. Contact Pete at nhc-golf@earthlink.net with any questions.
