2022 National Hickory Championship

Foxburg’s lovely setting in the Allegheny National Forest.

Pete Georgiady, host, founder, and organizer of the now 25-year-old National Hickory Championship has announced that the 2022 edition will be at the Foxburg Country Club in Foxburg, Pa., on June 2-4.

The decision to go to the c. 1897 Foxburg was a good fit for the NHC as the course’s age fits the time period that NHC golf wishes to emulate – late 1890s gutty golf.  “Many NHC players have already played that historic course or have participated in the Foxburg Hickory Championship,” Georgiady said.

Tom Johnson, of Tallmadge, Ohio, has hosted the Foxburg Hickory Championship, a similar gutty-style event, at Foxburg CC since 2008, and agreed that Foxburg works well for the NHC.  “It fits the style of the NHC and will be a great venue for Pete’s players,” he said. “They’ll have a great game on the perfect course for the NHC.”

For players participating at Foxburg, the Thursday practice format has changed. The first activity will be the International Feathery Challenge beginning at 9:30 a.m. After feathery players have all teed off, the Mike and Elmore Foursomes Competition will begin. When players in either group have finished the course is open for practice until 3 p.m. when the Foxburg league commences play.

For 2022, practice competition for a player is limited to IFC or the Foursomes, not both. Please sign up for one or the other. If participating in neither, open practice would probably begin around 11:30 a.m.

First timers at the NHC, Pete needs a digital photo of you for the program and other promotion. Thanks.

The NHC will host a Remote Division again this year and participation in that event requires registration through the Remote Division document. Remote Division players will receive the scorecard with hole lengths and rules sheet after entering. Entry fee can be made through PayPal or, for domestic U.S. entries, by mailed check.
