The 16th edition of the World Hickory Open will be contested Oct. 11-14 across four courses in the St. Andrews / Fife area of Scotland. The deadline to register is 12 January 2021, and about 50 players have already signed up out of the limit of 130.

Registration can be found at https://www.worldhickoryopen.com.

Registration requires a deposit, which is based on the amount of play and number of nights accommodation requested. For example, five nights in the 5-star Old Course Hotel, plus four rounds of golf, the welcome reception, Scottish night, and prize-giving dinner, is £1859 for an individual (about 2,500 U.S. dollars or 2,300 Euros): deposit is £278 ($365, €300). For golf only, four rounds, the total is £714 ($845, €780).

The Archie Baird 4-man team competition will be played Monday, Oct. 11, on Scotland’s newest course, Dumbarnie Links (www.dumbarnielinks.com), of which George Peper says, “every serious St. Andrews pilgrim will want to play”

On Oct. 12-13, individual competitors will split between the two courses – the Torrance and the Kittocks – of the Fairmont St Andrews Bay resort (www.fairmont.com/st-andrews-scotland).

The finale of the WHO championship will be played over Balcomie Links in Crail (https://crailgolfingsociety.co.uk/balcomie-links), laid out in 1895 by Old Tom Morris.

The WHO 2021 is being staged by World Hickory Holdings, a non-profit organisation, led by Hamish WR Steedman of Saint Andrews Golf Company (www.standrewsgolfco.com), said to be “the oldest continuously operating golf equipment designer and builder in the world.”

Hamish noted, “This is a world event. If we’re going to do this, we really want to do it properly. Hopefully, people will get the experience the event deserves.”
