Illinois’ Honorable Company prepares to launch its season with the annual Spring Gathering, a two-day event with featheries and good fun.
Friday – Hillcrest Golf Center, Washington, Ill.
1 p.m. – Be ready to step back in time to the early 1800s with a 12-hole feathery match (balls provided at no cost by Hickory Lane). Nine holes of the finest gutty golf to be had will follow, using the Park or Braid ball. We will have gutties for sale; loaner clubs will be available for both rounds. Please dress for the event if possible.
Cost for 21 holes is $17.50; cart is $5.75/person for nine holes. All payable at the clubhouse.
Saturday – Metamora Fields, Metamora, Ill.
9:15 am – Gather at practice chipping green for photos and the traditional toast with Francis the Squirrel.
10 a.m. – Start of 18 holes with Braid or Park ball. Late lunch, drinks, and mutual admiration in the clubhouse afterward. Please dress for the event if possible. Loaner clubs will be available. Possible bogey game for those bold enough to challenge the Squirrel.
The cost is $50 with cart or $45 without cart, payable at the clubhouse.
For either or both days, $15 payable to Tom or Denny for the event, plus $5 side game with the Squirrel.
