May 4, 2025—The Vintage Hickory Classic
The Northwest Hickory Players celebrated World Hickory Golf Day at Meadow Park Golf Course (1915) by playing the 13th Vintage Hickory Classic. Thirty-two players teed it up on a bright Sunday morning at Meadow Park in Tacoma, Wash. Not having had rain for a week or so the course was firm—we got some bounce and roll!!—and the greens were the best ever. In 1915, when Meadow Park was built, the land was an open meadow but 110 years later it is a beautiful tree-lined course. Douglas firs towering above the golf course with native oaks mixed in to intimidate the best of players. Trees so large it takes a at least a couple people to reach around them. A great setting for World Hickory Golf Day.
At the end of the day, Brent Hudkins had won his 4th Vintage. Had he not missed the 2023 Vintage, he might have had four consecutive titles and so retired the trophy. The Ladies Champion was Kathleen Turner: the Senior Champion was John Quickstad (he hosts the Washington State Hickory Championship); and the Super Senior Champ was Kit Ledbetter.
Net winners were: Super Senior – Rick Lehman; Senior – Robert Markwardt; Ladies – Roberta Robbins; and Open Net – Jeff Lefferts.
After the round medals were awarded and a small, but brisk, trading session broke out.
