SUMMARY:2026 Belvedere Hickory Open – CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:!!!THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!! \nThe Belvedere Hickory Open returns from a one-year hiatus to the Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix\, Mich. Fans of the event can expect the usual mix of receptions\, incredible golf on that wonderful William Watson-designed course dating from 1927\, and a wonderful awards banquet on the final evening. \nThose who are familiar with that banquet will know that it was customarily held in the Belvedere Casino\, the Belvedere Club’s dinner and gathering spot. This past year\, the casino burned to the ground\, the victim of an arson. It is to be rebuilt and construction is already underway. What this means for 2026 is that the banquet will be held at the nearby Grey Gables Restaurant\, a fashionable inn and dining spot on Belvedere Avenue in Charlevoix. \n

SUMMARY:2026 Columbia Cup
DESCRIPTION:One of the highly anticipated events of the year for West Coast hickory golfers\, the Columbia Cup is played on the Gearhart Golf Links\, site of this year’s U.S. Hickory Open. While that event is currently sold out with a wait list\, the Columbia Cup offers an opportunity to play this Northwest gem\, whether you are on the USHO wait list or just wish to get in another practice round. \nHere’s the information supplied by the host Northwest Hickory Players. \nThe Historic Gearhart Golf Links\, Gearhart\, Ore.\, is the site for this two-day event.  The name Columbia comes from the Columbia Rediviva\, the ship that Capt. Robert Grey sailed into the area in 1792\, subsequently naming the great river the Columbia. The Columbia Cup also honors the Columbia Sportswear Company that has supported our efforts at Gearhart in past years. \nThe entry fee is $280. Five divisions (Open\, Senior\, Women\, and Super Senior and the OF (over 80) with medals in every division. Note that the Open division is truly open — anyone may enter (any age and both women and men). The practice round is not included in the tournament fee. Contact the pro shop anytime up until the day before the event to schedule a discounted round. \nTournament play both days will be with tee times off No. 1 beginning at 10 a.m. This year there will not be a dinner as part of the tournament.  (Trying to reduce costs as rounds have become more expensive.) \nVisit the NWHP Columbia Cup page and click the red RSVP button to enter. DEADLINE is June 20\, 2026. \nEquipment\nThe Columbia Cup will follow the SoHG equipment guidelines for pre-1935 equipment.  Any USGA approved ball is allowed including replica balls offered by companies and individuals.  \nPractice Round\nAs the entry fee does not cover the practice round\, players may call the pro shop – 503-739-5037 — to arrange to play one in advance of the event.  When you call\, indicate that you are in the Columbia Cup to get the discounted rate.  Make sure to arrange a tee time well in advance. \nAttire for play\nPlayers are encouraged\, not required\, to dress in period appropriate attire; basically what would have been typical in that pre-1935 era. Please no shorts or baseball caps.   \nTrade Show\nAn informal trade show will happen after play on Saturday. Using the benches along the sides of the deck as well as nearby tables on the ground level leaves the main part of the deck for others. \nLodging\nThere are many choices for lodging.  Gearhart by the Sea Condo resort across the street can be reached at 503-738-8331\, ext. 501 (by phone works best). They give us a 10% discount (mention Gearhart Hickory Classic).  The McMenamins Gearhart Hotel at the course is a great choice — 503-717-8159.  There are many houses offered on VRBO\, AirBnB\, bed and breakfasts that can be available near the course. There are a full range of hotels at Seaside\, Oregon\, 2 miles to the south and at Astoria\, Ore.\, 14 miles to the north. Any of these places can be found by searching online.

SUMMARY:2026 Foxburg Hickory Championship
DESCRIPTION:Historic Foxburg Country Club is hosting the 18th Foxburg Hickory Championship Thursday\, Aug. 13-15th\, 2026. \nEstablished in 1887\, Foxburg Country Club is the oldest golf course in continuous use in the United States\, and proves to be an excellent venue for hickory and gutty play.  \nThe 2026 edition of the FHC includes the Foxburg Featherie Challenge on Thursday\, Aug. 13.  This is a nine-hole medal play event with divisions based on the count and array of entries.  The entry fee for the Feathery Challenge is the nine-hole greens fee only.  Awards are included with your FHC entry.  A round of feather ball golf prior to the primary component of the hickory tournaments (especially guttie ball tournaments) is gaining in popularity.  Several Oddball format events (events popularized by Denny and Cathy Lane whose tournament of the same name has been gaining more adherents) have emerged where the feather ball score is combined with your scores recorded with later period balls. More information on obtaining feather balls is included on the event information PDF\, below.  \nThe Foxburg Hickory Championship’s Pre-1900 and Post 1900 competitions are on Friday\, Aug. 14 and 15.  These are two days of 18-hole medal play. Practice rounds are encouraged on either Wednesday or Thursday. Arrange your practice round tee times with the pro shop; they are not included in the entry fee.  There is generally a considerable group attending the practice round days.  \nClick here for a PDF of complete event information. \nClick here for a registration form.

SUMMARY:2026 Wisconsin Hickory Open
DESCRIPTION:Hello to all our hickory golf family.  Here we are.  Another year and another season. \n2026 also marks another milestone for the Wisconsin Hickory Golfers and the Links course of Lawsonia.  Though it will be the 16th event played on this great course (as we hosted the U.S. Hickory Open in 2016)\, 2026 will be the 15th anniversary of the Wisconsin Hickory Open.  I wonder if Ken Holtz and Joe Guerard\, having a wee nip of Kummel in the members lounge at Muirfield\, discussing how to start an event in Wisconsin\, ever thought that we would be hosting our 15th WHO.  Since its inception\, the Wisconsin Hickory Open has been through various conditions.  From the first event on an extremely hot\, dry August weekend where the greens were so quick you hoped the wind wouldn’t blow your ball off the green\, to a raging river splitting the first green in half from a torrential rain burst\, we’ve seen it all.  But that is Wisconsin\, and we would not have it any other way. \nThe one thing that has stayed the same over the years\, is the fun and fellowship we’ve had gathering on a great hickory course like the Links of Lawsonia\, and we will do it again. \nOn Oct. 1–3\, we will once again convene on the Links course of Lawsonia in Green Lake\, Wisc.  There is no better time to play golf in Wisconsin than in the fall\, as the leaves are turning\, and the air is crisp. \n \nWe will have multiple hickory play divisions for gross and net winners. Lots of awards\, fun and food.  Thursday is our practice day with a Thursday night welcome reception and trade show (you are welcome to bring clubs to trade and sell).  Friday will be the first round of the event in the morning followed by score posting and fellowship gathering right after.  That evening\, we will meet at the club house for our traditional Wisconsin “Friday Fish Fry” dinner.  Saturday morning\, we will play the second round and meet for scores and awards immediately following. \nHickory club equipment rentals will be available. The tournament uses pre-1935 SoHG-approved clubs. It is two days of medal play in both gross and net divisions. \nClick here for an entry form. \nSo\, mark your calendars and join us for the 2026 Wisconsin Hickory Open. \nIt will be a special occasion.\nCheers!\nJim “Doc” Eike
