Tommy’s Honour raising funds for homeless in Austin, Texas
GCS/SoHG member Pete League notes that the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin where the film Tommy’s Honour is showing, is donating all proceeds from box office sales on Tuesday, April 18 to Community First! Village, a project of Mobile Loaves and Fishes. This is an Austin-based Catholic charity that provides food and clothing to the homeless.
The newly released film Tommy’s Honour is based on the book by Kevin Cook of the same name and is the story of the Tom Morris father/son relationship. The film touches on other aspects of life and golf in Scotland in the early 1900s. It won top honors at the recent British Academy Scotland film awards. The book, Tommy’s Honour, won the prestigious Herbert Warren Wind Book Award, presented by the USGA as the best golf book in 2007.
All film goers were invited to wear period attire. GCS members displayed antique golf clubs and other memorabilia in the lobby before and after the film.
