Polish Hickory a grand time for all

   The 4th Polish Hickory Championship was held at the Sierra Golf Club, a seaside course near Gdansk. The location was chosen for its ease of travel for players from Germany, Sweden, and Finland. We also had Czester Kruk from Scotland.

   Our tradition is celebrate centenary anniversaries of great hickory champions. The 2014 championships honored 1914 champions: Harry Vardon, who won The Open Championship at Prestwick; and Walter Hagen, who the U.S. Open at Midlothian CC in Illinois, USA. ) The first flights were named to their honour.

   Dariusz Bobinski, the club captain was named Hickory Golf Ambassador. He also won the Polish Hickory Championship with a fine score of 91. Bogdan Szpilnan tied with Czester Kruk at 94. They finished second and third, respectively, on countback. Kruk also won the nearest to the pin contest.

   The youngest participant, 12-year-old Maciek Jaroszek, won the longest drive. Sofia Lelakowska won the Ladies title. Best hickory attire was won by Jaroslaw Szwarc, selected in players voting.

   This year, to involve more the club members, the Sierra GC sponsored a Sierra Retro Golf Challenge 2014. Players with retro outfits and contemporary clubs and three holes were played with the hickory era original clubs. Everyone enjoyed a lot the feel and touch of hickory. It was an exquisite occasion to try the hickory golf experience. Special thanks to Sierra Golf Club Manager Sebastian Magrian.

   In the evening there was a gala dinner and ball in 1920s style with live music. Everyone enjoyed dancing hickory swing and jazzy swing to the very morning!
