Lionel Freedman interviewed by Mitch Laurance

There’s no finer exponent of hickory golf on the airwaves than Mitch Laurance, radio host extraordinaire. Recently, Mitch interviewed Lionel Freedman, host and organizer of the the World Hickory Open, one of the planet’s finest modern hickory golf tournaments. Here’s an exceprt from Mitch Laurance’s introduction to the Lionel Freedman interview:

In a return visit to “Golf Connections,” speaking from the Ben Hogan Suite at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, Lionel describes his emotional reaction to this latest outpouring of support from around the world, the journey from humble beginnings to the Buddon, Burnside and Championship courses at Carnoustie, the effect of 2014 champion Sandy Lyle’s victory on the world of hickory golf, and the format and other perks (including playing Muirfield) of this year’s World Hickory Open. It’s a wonderful listen, from a man whose connections run deeply through Scottish golf and the history of the game.
