Jim Von Lossow loves Arizona hickory golf

Sixty-six hickory players from around the USA and Canada came to the Sun City West Pebblebrook Golf Course to compete in this year’s contest, including three women. The tournament supported a field for Championship, Senior, New-To-Hickory, Super Senior, and a Ladies Division.

The weather offered perfect Arizona sunshine with temps in the 80s. All visitors from the North enjoyed getting away from winter’s cold and getting out to play in the sun. And a Hole-In-One was accomplished by Ken Appletree from Prescott, Ariz. on hole No. 8. This was only Ken’s second time playing hickory shafted authentic golf clubs … Congrats!

Jim Von Lossow of Seatle, Wash., was our overall Tournament Champion, shooting a fine 72 / 79, with Jimmy Hill, of Tulare, Calif. as our runner up. Jimmy was close on his heals with 76 / 76. Von Lossow’s 4-shot lead into day-two was short lived as Hill chipped away at the lead with consistent shot making, only to be edged by one stroke by Von Lossow down the final holes.

Our Senior winner was Jeff Simonson of Sun City West, who shot 79 / 78. The New-To-Hickory Division winner was Tom Quinn, also of Sun City West, with 80 / 81. Our Super Senior Division was won by Paul Biocini of Valley Springs, Calif., with 74 / 73. Our Ladies Division was won by Donna Richmond of Sun City West, with consistent rounds of 92 / 90.

Please see the Tournament Score Board Photos on the attached PDF, below, for a list of all competitor performances.

Correction: Earlier it was reported that Kevin Cawley was our runner-up winner in the Senior Net Division. This was due to the scoreboard posting after the 2nd round of the tournament. However upon further review of the standing for each player, it was noted that Russ Plylar finished with a net two day total of 138, one stroke lower than Kevin at 139. Sorry for the mistake, but wanted to recognize our Senior Runner Up Net Winner. Congrats to both players for a fine performance.

Dates for our 2017 tournament will be Saturday / Sunday Feb. 25-26 with practice round available on Friday 2/24. For information about the tournament please contact Ken Holtz at k.holtz2430@gmail.com.
