Hickories in the news at World Amateur

Mitch Laurance, first hickory player at the World Amateur Championships.

Aug. 31, 2017 – Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Mitch Laurance, the radio host and hickory golf aficionado from Myrtle Beach, S.C. is in the news for his hickory golf game. A week or so ago, the SoHG posted a story about Laurance and his appearance as the first hickory golfer in the World Amateur Championship held over various Myrtle Beach golf courses. Over the course of the event, some 3,000 players will compete, using a handicap system devised by the tournament organizers.

News of the event’s first hickory golfer would quickly make the rounds and Myrtle Beach Online writer, Alan Blondin, was quick to see a fresh angle for the golf tournament. Blondin’s story about Laurance and his hickory clubs at the World Amateur can be read here.

Laurance is playing in the Mid Senior Men’s flight (60-69). To date, his cumulative net score is 287.

The tournament wraps up the day after this post. Good luck, Mitch!
