2017 GCS Annual Meeting and Trade show Set for Southern Pines This November

Each year, the Golf Collectors Society organizes its largest trade show to coincide with an annual meeting for its members. The 2017 GCS Annual Meeting & Trade Show is scheduled at the Pine Needles/Mid Pines Resort, directly on the heels of the Mid Pines Hickory Open. You might see some GCS fellows at the Saturday evening SoHG trade show, too.

If you are a hickory player and wish to take in some of the GCS action, be assured that guests are welcome. There is usually an auction, too, as well as educational seminars on both collecting and golf history. The GCS also holds is national hickory championship during the meeting, this year scheduled for a Monday outing. Its large annual trade show is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14.

This year’s presenters at the GCS seminars on Monday include Graeme Ryan, president of the Australian Golf Heritage Society, and publisher of a new book on Dr. Frank Stableford, creator of the famous Stableford scoring system. Ryan will talk on Stableford. Also presenting is Dick McDonough, author of Great Golf Collections of the World, on what it takes to get a golf book written and published, and on early American golf illustrators.

The annual GCS Hickory Championship takes place Monday at noon on the Mid Pines golf course. Later that evening is the GCS banquet with keynote speaker Sidney Matthew, the well-known Bobby Jones biographer and author. The GCS trade show on Tuesday is an all-day show and will likely show many hundreds of hickory clubs.

If you are an SoHG member and can extend your Mid Pines stay through Tuesday, it may well be worth your time to visit this show.
