!!!CANCELLED!!!
May 16-17

Soangetaha Country Club
Galesburg, Ill.

Event organizer Denny Olson reports (April 10) that the event is cancelled.

Denis Olson writes:
After another warm welcome in 2019, we are excited to return to Soangetaha for the 2020 Mid-American Hickory Open. Adding to the excitement of our annual event, we will have the opportunity to join the Club in celebrating its 125th anniversary. This beautiful, parkland course was first laid out and played in 1895 and later modified by Tom Bendelow in the 1920s. I think all who have played here agree, this course is well suited to the hickory game. Our format will be pre-1935 stroke play, with 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday. We will have the traditional divisions – Championship, Senior, Statesman, and Ladies – with awards for low gross and net.

This country club setting is beautifully maintained and has been host to a variety of prestigious events. Among them the Illinois Men’s and Women’s Amateurs, the Illinois Men’s and Women’s Senior Amateurs and the National Left-Handed Golfers Tournament. This mature course has a gently rolling topography with views of Lake Rice and interesting challenges on every hole. Just as important, the staff and membership have been outstanding. I cannot think of a course where the golf services and hospitality have been better.

Separate Scramble Event
In addition to our annual event, member George Bergland and Soangetaha professional Kirk Hosteng are organizing a separate 18-hole, Hickory Super Ball Scramble for Sunday. This scramble is designed to help celebrate Soangetaha’s 125th anniversary. Club members will be encouraged to get involved, playing hickories and wearing period dress. The scramble is not limited to members, though, all are welcome to register. Contact Kirk for details and registration at 309 342-5410 or via the Club’s website  The scramble group will join us for our awards BBQ lunch on Sunday.

The weather last year was wet, but the weather here in May is usually spectacular.  We hope you will join us to start your hickory season.
