2018 Gutty Golf Spectacular

March 24-25, 2018
Catalina Island CC
Catalina Island, Calif.

Sponsored by the Pacific Coast Hickory Golfers, the Gutty Golf Spectacular is the first all-gutty tournament west of the Mississippi.  This third annual gutty event will be contested on the Catalina Island CC, a hickory era and great-for-gutty-golf course. This 9-hole course measures 2,100 yards and will play to a bogey of 36.  The original three holes were built in 1892 by the Banning brothers. Around the turn of the century it was expanded to nine holes. The course meanders through a canyon setting towards Avalon cove and the Pacific Ocean. This event will take you back in time, playing golf like it was about 120 years ago. You can’t play farther out in the Pacific as the next course out is in Hawaii. The event will be popular with golfer’s better halves, too, as Catalina Island is a beautiful tourist and destination spot. Following the first round on Saturday night Kurt and Julie Olsen will host the group for drinks and an appetizer reception. The island has many little restaurants with great seafood. Awards both days, and lunch after final round will be at golfers’ cost.  Only the McIntyre “Park” ball, and sand tees are used for this event. Dress in period attire.

Catalina Island is 26 miles from the mainland. The registration form has information on both boats from Newport Beach and planes from Long Beach, San Pedro, and Dana Point. Hotel information is listed as well.
