Take a trip down memory lane and dust off those old school clubs. Join other hickory golfers, including the Society of Hickory Golfers, and play golf on the infamous Ocean Course twice. Learn about the old game and even explore the period clothing and equipment. Golfers who are new to hickory golf and would like to experience this unique game are welcome. We have once again secured the historic golf course, Onion Creek CC, where the Legends of Golf (now the Champions Tour) Inaugural Tournament started by Jimmy Demaret was held. Top area resort courses are available for play if you'd like to extend your visit into a vacation. Registration at the Comfort Inn Thursday March 27th, 3-7pm. A cocktail party will be Thursday evening as well. A two-day tournament will be played Friday and Saturday with tee times starting approximately 10:00 am. Medal Play or Scramble and perhaps a senior division. A cocktail party and dinner at the Hill's Friday evening. The Selma CC is a wonderful old design from the 1920s with Ross-type greens and an appropriate length for hickory golf. This event is a 2 person better ball event with both gross and net divisions. You should have a Society of Hickory Golfers handicap or equivalent. We recommend the SoHG handicap as it is free whether you're a member of the SoHG or not and uses the accepted USGA formula to compute the handicap. It also makes your handicap available to all tournament directors during the season. You can easily go on the website at www.hickorygolfers.com and set up your handicap. The first 30 paid entries will be invited to play Saturday, April 5th at Montgomery CC. We played a small event there in 2007. This wonderful old venue is a great way to finish the week. The day will include lunch, golf and cocktails at the home of noted collector Forrest McConnell. Forrest is arranging all of this for us. If we have enough entries, we will have a Ladies Division again. Ladies, please talk to your fellow golfers. The entries will be mailed at the beginning of the year to all past participants and will be available on the www.tommorrisclubs.com website and the SoHG website. A full field of 36 teams is expected. We have rooms set aside at the Hampton Inn 334.876.9995. This is convenient to all activities. April 4th - 6th 2008 BGCS Welsh Hickory Championship The 2008 British Golf Collectors Society Welsh Hickory Championship will once again be contested over the links at Aberdovey Golf club, former home of Bernard Darwin. TBD
The first BGCS major of the year returns to Aberdovey Golf Club in Mid-Wales. The weekend gets started with the traditional Friday afternoon match for the BGCS vs. Machynlleth Golf Club. Aberdovey GC will once again host a match against the society Saturday, and the 18 medal play round will be contested Sunday. This event is limited to BGCS members and their guests.

May 19th 2008 BGCS Central England Hickory Championship The second BGCS major on the BGCS fixtures card for 2008 takes place at the scenic Coxmoor Golf Club in Nottingham, England Tony Thorpe at anthonythorpe@ntlworld.com
Coxmoor Golf Club will once again be the host of the CEHC. This event also includes the Seniors Championship, which run concurrently. Coxmoor is a a high quality heathland golf course in Nottinghamshire. This event is limited to BGCS members and their guests. More details to follow.
May 23rd 2008 BGCS Scottish Hickory Championship The third BGCS major will once again take place at the challenging Gullane #3 course. Ron Beatt is the organizer.
This is the longest running hickory event in Great Britain, with a roll of champions going back 23 years to 1985. The course is not long, but the greens can be quite tricky as many slope away from you as you approach. This event is limited to BGCS members and their guests on a space available basis.

June 5th (PR) - June 7th 2008 National Hickory Championship The 11th annual NHC will once again be contested over the historic Oakhurst Links in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Oakhurst Links were first used in the early 1880s. Contestants in the Tournament play 36 holes in two days. Clubs must be original 19th century or approved replicas and all players use modern-made, low-compression gutta percha-type balls supplied by the Tournament. Tee shots are struck from sand tees. No golf bags are allowed so players carry clubs under their arm in the manner of 1880s golfers. There is a dress code. Although period costumes are not required, many golfers dress appropriately and prizes are presented to the "best dressed." The NHC is like no other hickory golf tournament here or in Britain; it's truly unique.
June 19th - 21st 2008 Hickory Open at Belvedere The 2008 Hickory Open at Belvedere is tentatively set for June 19th (practice round) - June 21st in Charlevoix, Michigan. Check back for additional information and a firm date soon.

Play will be individual stroke play contested with playsets limited to 7 clubs. The course will be set to a yardage of 5,400 yards. Winner of low gross will have his/her names engraved upon The Ouimet Trophy. July 21st (PR) - July 23rd 2008 U.S. Hickory Open Championship The SoHG is pleased to announce its first annual US Hickory Open Championship to be conducted at Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club in Morganton, NC from July 21 through July 23, 2008. The Tournament Committee consists of Bill Engelson, Frank Boumphrey, Chris Deinlein, Barry Markowitz and Michael Fay.
Donald Ross, the famed Scottish-born golf course architect, created Mimosa Hills in 1929, taking painstaking advantage of Morganton's natural beauty and phenomenal panoramic mountain views. They recently completed a thorough restoration of the entire course, preserving the integrity of his design while keeping an eye on the future of the game. Mimosa is the home course of the famed amateur, Billy Joe Patton who almost won the 1954 Masters and finished one shot behind Ben Hogan and Sam Snead. The US Hickory Open shall comprise a practice round on Monday, July 21 followed on Tuesday and Wednesday by two 18 hole medal score competitive tournament rounds. There will be at least three divisions: Open, Reserve and Senior with a Female Division if six or more ladies compete. Appropriate trophies will be awarded following the conclusion of medal play on Wednesday. Mark your calendars and make appropriate commitments to attend this inaugural event. Since we plan to limit the field to 72 competitors you'll need to send in your application soon after it is available on the SoHG website in early January 2008. More details will be forthcoming as they become available.

Aug 2nd Kungsmarken Hickory Open The second edition of Kungsmarken Hickory Open will be held August 2nd 2008. It is played at the 7th oldest golfclub in Sweden, Lunds Akademiska Golfklubb, founded in 1936. The course has a lot of beautiful scenery as it is situated in a nature reserve. Finnish Golf Historic Society welcomes hickory players and their guests from all over the world to Finland for Finnish Hickory Championships. Finnish Hickory Championship is held at Harjattula Golf&Country Club near Turku in South West of Finland on 2nd of August 2008 starting at 11. Oct 10th 2008 BGCS English Hickory Championship The final BGCS major of the year is tentatively set for 10 October at the historic Rye Golf Club. Tim Smartt is the organizer.
Rye GC is a classic links course, and always able to challenge its players. This event is limited to BGCS members, and a jacket is required for play.

Belvedere, built in 1949, was designed by Herman Hackbarth, the head professional of the Country Club of Little Rock. It has recently undergone a change in ownership and the course has been returned to its former great condition. This is an "away" game for the Arkansas Razorbacks so all of you folks who have a lake house in the Hot Springs area, gather up some friends and let's play hickory! We'll see you there!
