Virginia Hickory Golf
If you are interested in learning about hickory golf clubs or playing hickory golf in Virginia, contact Eric Wagner by email. Or phone him at 434-409-7681.
Also, there is a new association with a new website. Visit the Virginia Hickory Golf Association (VaHGA) at virginiahickorygolf.com. You'll find a calendar of events, links and other information. Organizer Skip Platt says that at this time there are about 14 interested parties. The group is planning to meet for golf on the second Saturday of each month and is working on getting a mixture of courses from around the state. It is hoped that the Jefferson Lakeside CC in Richmond, a Donald Ross design from 1915, will host at least one of the monthly outings and, perhaps, a Virginia Hickory Invitational in October – a 36-hole event with a practice round. As plans for the Invitational are confirmed, Skip will get the word out, so keep an eye on both this page and the VaHGA website for that confirmation. Skipp notes that the VaHGA has a challenge match with the Carolina Hickory Golf Association in April – they are shooting for April 7 – at the Danville CC. He also says the group will experiment with the one-ball-for-all concept and has placed an order for a number of balls from Chris McIntyre.
