Tournament Information

The third leg of the 2011 Championship Series is the 34th annual Heart of America hickory championship.

The Heart of America is the oldest continuously held hickory tournament in the world, originated in 1978 by GCS President Warren “Ole” Olsen. It has become a staple of hickory golf. This year features Omaha and two of its historic, but distinctly different, hickory era courses.

On Friday we play at the Elmwood Park Golf Course, a city-owned, 18-hole course. The tree-lined Elmwood Park is a par 68 and was built in 1915. The format on this day is a two-person better ball. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with tee times beginning at noon. Players may sign up with a partner or have partners assigned to make up two-person teams.

After golf on Friday, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., we’ll enjoy a reception and tour of golf antiquities at Randy Jensen’s Classic Golf shop in Omaha. The evening includes BBQ, burgers, brats, and dogs, grill-out and
chill-out with club tradin’, swappin’, and sellin’. This is all included in your registration – no display fee.

On Saturday, we’ll contest the Heart of America Championship at the Happy Hollow Club. This club originated in 1907 and the current course opened 1924. Happy Hollow is a demanding but fair and true test of golf with hickories. Titles will be earned. Registration begins at noon with tee times beginning at 1 p.m. The range and practice facility will be available from 9 a.m. for participating players in the hickory championship. An awards banquet buffet in the Wimbleton Room will follow at the completion of play.
