Tournament Information

In its fifth year, this engaging tournament invites competitors from each of the 50 United States to represent their states in hickory competition. That’s not to say that visitors are not welcome. Most certainly they are, says director Peter Herrington. The course is Old Kinderhook in Camdenton, Mo. designed by Tom Weiskopf in 1999. The men’s event is played in a two-ball/better-ball format and twosomes format, applying the English Stableford scoring method. Ladies play a two-person scramble on both days. Original and replica equipment acceptable for play. This tournament endeavors to offer a “unique end-of-year social occasion in one location, where current hickory golfers and those new to hickory play can enjoy the camaraderie and convivial atmosphere engendered by the on-site location, and our love of the traditional game.” Those not from a U.S. state can be paired with others, or choose a state to represent. Cost in 2011 was $275, which included three nights at Old Kinderhook (two to a room); green fees and carts on competition days; complimentary practice round on Thursday followed by reception; use of the practice range; Friday dinner and Saturday award banquet. Café facilities are available for breakfast and lunch, or Players may self-cater in their cottages. The cost for non-golfing spouses or partners was $150 for three nights double occupancy, or $200 to include accommodation and both evening dinners. The area provides ample opportunities for non-golfers to enjoy the nearby lake, shopping and antiques.
